2009 Regional
Select Program
The
program is considered a post season extension with teams formed with the approval
of the Select Committee. It is only available for U10 and above and
requires that players must have played in 50% of their regular season
games. Players are invited by the approved coaches to play and are
typically more technically talented players. The Select leagues and
tournaments are very competitive.
The Program is split into 2
groups:
Year
Round Select (aka "Fall Select")- starts practices in November and
plays until July 31st. This year we started later with teams practicing in
November. The team may play in 5 or more tournaments, the Founders Cup
tournament and the PV Spring League.? Players on this team are more
committed to soccer and consider it their primary sport.? Kids playing in
multiple sports or on a club soccer team and coaches should consider their
level of interest before signing up for the Year Round Select program.
Spring
Select- starts at
the end of the primary fall season, plays in the PV Spring League and
competes in the Founders Cup tournament. The Coach and parents can agree to
play in more tournaments if there is sufficient interest. Where practical
(depending on coach and player interest), multiple teams in each division
may be formed.

Fall Program Up and Running,
players selected:
The Fall
Select teams have been formed and are training for their first tournament.
If you have not heard from a coach, your child was not selected. The Fall
teams have limited space and competition for the spots is fierce. All
interested players who were not picked, have been forwarded to the approved
spring coaches for consideration.

Nov 9 Spring
Select Coach submission and nominations, deadline extended from Nov 1.
Nov 14 Spring
Select Coach approval.*
Nov 21 Spring
Select Player submission.**
Nov 28 Spring
Select Player approval and first practice.**
*- In
some divisions, due to the timing of coach observations or lack of interest
this date has been extended. The Select Committee will be conducting
additional meetings in support of this.
**-
Coaches may request an extension if needed.
Currently we are looking
for coaches to consider the opportunity of taking one of two additional
Select teams in the U10 Girls division. Coaches who do not have the
required U12 Coaching Certification may be approved pending completion of
the course.
Spring Program first tournament of
the year:
Dec 19 West
Torrance Christmas Classic (Pending coach and player approval).
Practices:
Fall
season and post-season area playoff teams have precedence and practices
must scheduled around these commitments. Until January most practices are
scheduled on Sundays to avoid conflicts.
Coach
Selection:
Coaches
should contact the Regional Select Coordinator as soon as possible. Coaches
are approved based on experience, behavior and fitness to represent the
region in a positive manner. Coaches must have coached in the Fall 2009
season either as an Assistant or as a Head Coach to be considered. As part
of the selection process the Division Coordinators and Regional Referee
Coordinator will be solicited for advice. Coach approvals are recommended
by the Select Committee and approved by the Regional Commissioner. No
coaches are guaranteed a spot. Coach training at the following levels is
mandatory:
U10 - U12
Coach.
U12- U12
Coach.
U14-
Intermediate Coach.
U16/U19-
Advanced Coach.
Player
Selection Process:
Unless
approved by the Select Committee, no coach may approach or discuss Select
with a player or parents. Any queries about the program should be sent to the
Select Coordinator. Any coach found violating this policy will be barred
from coaching in the Select program. Coaches are not allowed to recruit
players committed to another team.
Uniforms:
The
region has adopted a single uniform and numbering plan. Uniforms will be
purchased through the Region Uniform Coordinator. For each Division a
player will be assigned a unique number each year, this will facilitate the
combining of teams to play in tournaments later in the season.
Funding:
Each Select
team is financially independent from AYSO and is 100% self funded. Team
expenses may be audited and reporting of expenditures may be required at
the discretion of the region. All tournament and uniform expenses are paid
for by a regional check once teams have deposited sufficient funds with the
region. Typical Team expenses are:
Uniforms-
$50 per player.
Tournament
Fees- $50 per player. Some of this may be refunded if you provide a referee
team.
Gas and
Travel expenses to non Area 1F tournaments.
